How to Send Tabs, Links and Text between Desktop and Mobile using Chrome

Either way, to do that, you have to Email the link to yourself or Search for the same page / article again on your other device, which is quite irritating.

Not anymore if you are using Chrome.

In Chrome, you can instantly send the page you are viewing currently on One device to other device on Chrome browser, whether it is Desktop or Phone.

Apart of sending tabs, you can also select a snippet of text and send it.

NOTE: To share Tabs and text between any two devices on Google chrome, you have to sign-in to same Google account in both of them

Send Tabs

Sharing tabs between Desktop and Phone or Desktop and Desktop on Google chrome is quite easy and can be done in just couple of clicks.

Send Tab from Desktop to Phone/ Desktop

  1. Open the Tab/ Page that you want to share.
  2. Right-click anywhere on the page and click on Send to your devices and select the device.
  3. Alternatively, click on URL in address bar and you can see a Laptop icon to the right of address bar. Click on the button and then select the Phone or computer from the list.

Send Tab from Phone to Desktop

  1. Open the Tab/Page you want to Send on Chrome.
  2. Click on 3-dot menu icon on the right – Click on Share.
  3. From Share options Click on Send to your devices and then select the device from list.

After sending tab, you will get notification on receiver device. Just tap on the notification to open the tab.

If you don’t have multiple devices in the list, you will directly see the device name instead of “Send to your devices” option.

Send Links

You can also send any link on a page directly instead of opening it in a tab and then send it.

Send link from Desktop to Phone

Right click on the link, and then click on Send link to your devices and then select the device from the list.

Send link from Phone to Desktop

This isn’t available on Phone, so you have to use below Text sharing feature send the link as Text from Phone to Desktop, manually paste it and open the page.

  1. First enable Send Text feature flags by following steps in next section.
  2. Long press on any link and then tap on Share link . Then tap on Send text to other devices and select the device from the list.
  3. Now on second device, paste the link in address bar and press enter.

Send Text

With Copy text feature, you can copy any text from Chrome desktop and send it to Phone and vice versa. Once the text is sent it will be automatically copied to other device’s clipboard.

But this is an experimental feature, so you have to enable this feature in Chrome flags on both your Desktop and Phone.

Enable Send Text feature

Follow these steps and enable these flags on all of your devices to get this feature.

On Desktop:

  1. Open chrome and go to chrome://flags and search “Clipboard”.
  2. Now set these 3 options to EnabledEnable receiver device to handle shared clipboard feature,  Enable shared clipboard feature signals to be handled,  Sync Clipboard Service.

On Phone:

  1. Open chrome and go to chrome://flags and search “Clipboard”.
  2. Now set these 2 options to EnabledEnable receiver device to handle shared clipboard feature,  Enable shared clipboard feature signals to be handled.

Send Text From Chrome Desktop to Mobile/Desktop

  1. Open any Webpage on Chrome Desktop, then Select the text you want to send.
  2. Now right-click on selected text and then click on Copy to your device and select the device from list to which you want to send the text to. If you have single other device, you will directly see the device name as  Send to Mi A2.

Send Text From Chrome Mobile to Desktop

  1. Open any webpage in Chrome and Select the text and Tap on Share.
  2. Now you will see different share options, tap on Send text to Your devices  and then select the device you want to send the text to.

In both cases once you send the text, you will get a notification on the receiver device and the text will be automatically copied to its clipboard ready to paste.
